I heart Bunny by Australian photographer Polly Borland. She met this girl Gwen in Brighton. The lips are eyeliner, the eyes are lipstick.

Amazing. She's doing a talk at Whitechapel Book Art Fair today but I can't go.
Thought I'd upload these in dedication of her instead.

Plinths and Plastic?

I can't figure out how I feel about artists like Anthony Gormley right now. Gormley has invited people from the UK to occupy a Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. This is going on as we speak, and is supposed to represent freedom or something of that nature...freedom to stand, equality, sis boom blah bingo.

Come on. People standing on a plinth...art?

Who are the true geniuses these days? Do they make inflatable dolphins with saucepans hanging off them? Are these people really clever? I mean, seriously.

I might just start one of my own where everyone has to go to the bank, withdraw £1000 and give it to me, palm it off as 'Communist Democratic Monetary Art' and move to Barbados. I'll just scribe the book in several years time. Do you think the critics will dig it?

Bestival lived up to its namesake this year. It was, put simply, the definitive best. Ok, I have nothing to compare it to, but the sunny Isle of Wight, fancy dress (space theme, from paper mache aliens to every hot Jetson you could think of) to myriad bands made this one of the best weekends I've had in the UK to date. So many good bands but some newer highlights for me were Ou est la Swimming Pool, Golden Silvers, Man Like Me, Buraka Som Systema as well as the more obvious candidates like Bat for Lashes.

A favourite tent was the Rizzla space where people had to sing karaoke to bad hiphop/pop eg MC Hammer...best dressed was a kid with a giant moveable puppet on his shoulders operating sticks for its arms and legs.

My friend Anne sent me this song today...it's reminiscent of RAGE....a TV program of non stop clips we used to watch every Saturday morning.

She lives down under and I live in the Northern Hemisphere...

We keep in touch by sending each other weird and wonderful things we find on the net. It's nice to have that bond with my friends in Australia even though their day is my night and we live a totally different reality! Sometimes it feels like my OS friends are in Mars...I wish I could have all the people I love in the one place, or that I could snap my fingers to get somewhere instead of flying for 24 hours!

Despite thinking she's pretty one dimensional as an actress, I actually thought Scarlet Johansson's effort on Tom Waits was ok so kind of interested to see the outcome of the collaboration with Pete Yorn. Not enough to gauge much from this, but looks interesting nonetheless...

Ryan McGinley's photos rock. I love the fact that he has to take an entourage with him everywhere and puts hedonistic youth amidst the beauty of nature. It's the ultimate juxtaposition and a reminder of us to
not forget where we come from and to get the most out of life.

His exhibition starts at Alison Jacques gallery this Thursday and I can't wait to see the full collection of his latest series 'Moonmilk'.

I went to see Elizabeth Peyton "Live" at the Whitechapel gallery yesterday.

I love her painted works of everyday and famous people...they're caricatures that somehow seem real and their significance make you realise how much of a product of pop culture we are.

The way she uses colour is incredible. All her subjects are painted in a different light, and there doesn't seem to be much bias about anything she's saying about any of the people...some of whom are controversial figures. She somehow remains true to them and true to herself.

These photos landed on my desk for work a few weeks ago, and I haven't been able to refrain from telling everyone about them outside work as well as in.

They're a unique collection shot by Nicholas Taylor of his late friend Jean-Michel Basquiat at the Mud club in downtown NYC in the early 1980s....

Seeing them makes me yearn to have been alive in a time

where people pushed the boundaries

and ventured into the unknown creatively.

It gets harder to do that as time goes forward.

I discovered Fiona Banner work yesterday after a work meeting. I like her random sexually charged work and the simplicity of it. Sometimes art doesn't have to be so complicated and I like the idea of replacing sexual figures with words.

It also made me start thinking about who has penned the best erotic literature...I particularly like Nicky Gemmell's 'The Bride Stripped Bare"....but would love to know some further examples of lit-charged sexuality.

There's such a plethora of products on the market these days for kids. Toys in boxes...barbies, nintendos, games, trains, planes, automobiles.

We take it so for granted they will be how we purchase them...there are no surprises, everything is pre meditated, planned, instructions on the box.

What if, one day, you got a gizmo guardian angel instead of the one you ordered and there was nothing to denote this on the box? This happened to a friend of mine recently, returning to Australia from Tokyo. Is it a message from Gizmo God?
